The Year of The Pig

Well after last week's Burns night celebrations at nursery, she comes home telling me something about her being a pig.  Wasn't sure where that came from but a chance comment about what Chinese people eat (rice) and what they eat with (chopsticks) gave the game away.  Turns out that the nursery also celebrates Chinese New Year!

Once we explained what it was all about, she then wanted to know what animal every member of our family was.  So hubby got on the internet and dutifully looked up every member of our family.  She was delighted to know that Smiler is a Tiger.

Other animal news.  It came to our attention that the lovely Happyland farm that my Aunt Rena and Uncle Greg gave to the kids does not have a pig despite having a pig noise button on top of the house.  I had heard that Early Learning Centre had stopped putting the pigs in the farm because they didn't want to offend other religions.

While I thought the spirit of being inclusive was nice, I did think it was a bit silly that they had the pig shed, the pig noise and no pig.  Hubby got on the internet and found out that pigs were being provided free of charge to anyone who complained.  So Sweet-Pea got a lovely pig in the post that she was delighted with and our farm finally got the missing component.

I did say that I would update on my resolutions. My first resolution to be more mindful of our spending has gone really well.  We are really trying very hard not to overspend and stick to a budget and that seems to have worked.

The thyroid pill taking has gone not too badly but room for improvement.  I have missed the odd day so I guess technically I broke my resolution but I think I have been more consistent in taking them generally which is good.

The gym has been great.  This is the first week that I have not been at all.  We had a week between Smiler recovering from man-flu before he came down with another bout.  Fortunately, this bout was not so long but this time I fell sick and I haven't had the energy to do much of anything other that reach for the remote control and make cups of tea.

The desk is a mess.  Enough said.  Big fat "F" for failure on that one.

I have tried to spend a bit more time with hubby and kids.  We have had some nice walks but for the most part it has been so miserable out that our time together has mostly been indoors.

Smiler and I have been visiting some friends.  This is Smiler and I with my friend Helen and her son James:

This is Smiler practicing his new skill - sitting!  He also got his first tooth on February 5 but you can't see it in these photos.

Update: I started writing this two weeks ago when Smiler was just getting over his man-flu.  He has had two more bouts of it since then so I have been too exhausted to post!  We've been fever free since today so I'm keeping my fingers crossed!
